Tutorial 4 - Manually Formatting a Chart

This tutorial provides step by step instructions on how to manually format a chart. You can also automatically format charts using Box Styles and/or Chart Templates (see Tutorial 2).

  • Select the FILE tab and then click on the OPEN button. Click on the folder called TUTORIALS. Double-click on the file called TUTORIAL 4.
  • Make sure the EDIT CHART tab is selected. Click on the top box to select it.
  • Select the DOUBLE BORDER option (the option is shown when you click on the BOX BORDER tool).
  • Add a shadow by clicking on the BOX SHADOW tool.
  • Set the font to bold using the BOLD tool.
  • Click and drag to select all boxes on the second level (make sure your initial click is just above and to the left of the first box on the second level).
  • Set the background color to gold (or any other color) using the BOX COLOR tool.
  • You can also change the format of individual cells within boxes.
  • Click on the assistant box (just below and to the right of the top box) and then click on the title, EXEC ASSISTANT.
  • Click on ITALLIC tool to change the format of the title.

Congratulations! Your now know how to manually format chart boxes.

Tips and Tricks

  • Use the 'Fast Select' tool to quickly select multiple boxes.
  • Use the 'Copy Format' tool to speed up chart formatting.
  • You can use Ctrl+A to select all boxes in a chart.
  • You can use Shift-click to extend the current selection.
  • Don't forget to save when you are done editing a chart.
