Custom Formulas: Countif

To include a custom formula, you need to use the Field Manager

  1. From within the editor, select 'Add' in the FORMULAS category and select 'COUNTIF'
  2. From the 'Fields' drop down menu, select the field (from your data source) that you will be evaluating against (e.g. gender). Note that you can only evaluate against fields that are currently in your data source.
  3. From the 'Comparison' drop down menu, choose the appropriate operator (e.g. equals)
  4. In the 'Value' text box, type the appropriate value (e.g. 'male')
  5. Should you need to add more criteria, select the appropriate value from the 'And/Or' drop down menu and repeat steps 2 - 4
  6. Select the relevant 'Range':
    1. Self + Subordinates - Count the subordinates within a branch (include the top box of the branch)
    2. Subordinates - Count the subordinates within a branch (does not include the top box of the branch)
    3. Self + Direct Reports - Count the subordinates that directly report to a Supervisor (including the Supervisor record)
    4. Direct Reports - Count the subordinates that directly report to a Supervisor (does not include the Supervisor record)
  7. Click the 'OK' button
  8. Click the 'Rename' button to give the field a name. Make sure to use descriptive names like 'Count Males' as apposed to 'Untitled1'

Tips and Tricks

To edit a current formula field, select the field and click the 'Edit' button.
